Digitization of Aging-in-Place: An International Comparison of the Value-Framing of New Technologies

Planning for aging populations has been a growing concern policy makers across the globe. Integral to strategies promoting healthy are initiatives ‘aging in place’, linked services and care that allow older people remain their homes communities. Technological innovations—and especially development of digital technologies—are increasingly presented as potentially important helping support these initiatives. In this study, we employed qualitative document analysis examine compare discursive framing technology aging-in-place documents collected three countries: The Netherlands, Spain, Canada. We focus on technological interventions relation values such quality life, autonomy/independence, risk management, social inclusion, ‘active aging’, sustainability/efficiency health delivery, caregivers, peoples’ rights. findings suggest although all countries reflected common understandings challenges populations, desirability supporting place, appropriateness technologies latter, different value-framings were apparent. argue attention making explicit is understanding role policies imagining futures presumed innovation enactment.
